When you divide the diameter of any circle into the circumference (perimeter) of that same circle the answer you get will always be the same.
The answer will always be 3.14159. This is what you call Pi (
) .
Pi could also be called a ratio, which is always true for every circle.

You can test this yourself. Using your compass, draw a circle with a radius of 5 centimetres. Now cut yourself a length of string 10 centimetres long (this is the length of the diameter of your circle). See how many times the length of string fits over the circumference of the circle. It should fit three times with a small gap left over.
